What To Do Before Oral Surgery
PLEASE READ ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
IF THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES ARE NOT FOLLOWED SURGERY WILL NOT BE PERFORMED.
- If your surgery is scheduled for the morning and you are being sedated or are having general anesthesia you CANNOT have anything to eat or drink from midnight the night before.
- Wear loose clothing. It is recommended to wear short sleeves. Do not wear “flip flops” or high-heeled shoes. Do not wear contact lenses to your surgical appointment. Do not wear any make-up, jewelry, or nail polish.
- If you are taking medications on a regular basis continue to do so unless you have been advised otherwise by the doctor. Diabetics must follow the instructions given by the Doctor.
- High blood pressure medication should be taken the morning of surgery with a sip of water.
- IF YOU ARE HAVING GENERAL ANESTHESIA YOUR DRIVER MUST STAY HERE IN OUR OFFICE WHILE YOU ARE IN SURGERY. You must have a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you throughout the day and that night, as you will need assistance with the medications, food preparation and, possibly using the restroom.
- Do not bring small children to your surgical appointment.
- On the day before surgery, make several ice packs by filling zip-loc bags half full with equal parts water and alcohol; or you may use ice cubes or crushed ice. (The alcohol will keep the ice packs soft and pliable around the surgical site.) These will be applied on the outside of the face for the first 24 hours following surgery to keep pain and swelling to a minimum.
- You may also want to have teabags on hand should you experience bleeding beyond the first few hours following surgery. Apply moistened tea bag to surgical site and bite with pressure for 1 hour. Profuse or excessive bleeding should be brought to the doctor’s attention by calling the office at (813) 238-0411.
- Financial/insurance arrangements should be made prior to surgery so that your surgery is not delayed.
- Payment will be obtained at the beginning of your scheduled appointment because upon completion you will be escorted to your vehicle from the back of our office.
- Please be advised that if you are a “NO SHOW” for your confirmed surgery or if you do not cancel your surgery 24 hours prior or if you are cancelled for not following instructions above there will be a $150.00 cancellation fee added to your account. This fee must be paid in full prior to rescheduling.
- You must call to confirm your surgery the prior business day or your surgery will be canceled.
- You may be notified on short notice of surgery appointment time changes as this is a surgical office.
Post -operative instructions will be given to you on the day of your surgery.
